Sit down...have a drink...take a moment...take your lifetime...and think...

Thinking is good. One of the most obvious and important distinctions God put in place between us as mankind and all other life on this world is the ability to reason. I want to put my thoughts out in order to, hopefully, get you thinking, and perhaps even get your own thoughts. Be aware that I love debate, and if you want to intelligently discuss differences in thought, be they great or small, I would love to hear it! By no means do I know everything...but I seek to know and understand as much as I can...

Epic Fail!

“Epic fail, dude!” How often have you heard that one after you or someone else makes the blunder of the century?  Fails are remarkably entertaining these days.  There is even a popular web blog dedicated to chronicling, preserving, and spreading these tales of beleaguering blunders.  Now suppose there was a blog or even a whole book filled with every single one of your failures, and that was visible to the God who will judge you according to your actions.  Every mistake you made, every ignored opportunity to do the right thing, every sin.  Epic fail.

Byway to Hell

It’s been over thirty years since AC/DC first wrote their open declaration and celebration of their projected eternal destination in their hit song ‘Highway to Hell’, and today there are many who proudly call it the soundtrack of their spiritual journey.  Such flagrant embracing of separation from Christ is terribly tragic, but what is equally tragic are the lives of those going to the same place, just taking the scenic route instead.

What Is Truth?

As Christians, God has called us to be champions of righteousness–harmless as doves, and crafty as serpents.  What this is telling us is that we are to be balanced in all that we do.  If there ever was an area where we ought to put this into practice, it is philosophy.

Dying to Die

The greatest serial killer of our time has never been apprehended.  His victims number beyond reckoning.  He is never seen by his victims, but he makes his presence unbearably strong.  He often kills in the most sadistic, agonising ways imaginable.  He claims lives across the globe.  His vendetta stretches as far back as the beginning of time.  His name is Despair.

"By Faith [your name here]..."

What if faith wasn’t just blind trust in something? What if it wasn’t just hollow assumption? What if it wasn’t just taking someone at their word, keeping your fingers crossed on whether or not they’ll actually come through on their promise? Well actually, it’s not!

Hebrews 11:1 tells us that, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith takes empty hope and gives it substance. It is not blind assumption of something, but rather evidence for it. Often we may feel as if we are on trial for our beliefs; with the world around us, or even our own doubt, prosecuting, and with our ‘mere faith’ put forth as an argument against us; but in this light, it becomes evidence for us. A defense attorney often may have to search and search for evidence, but in this case, it is offered freely to us as a gift! For many, however, that is the problem.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Imagine waking up in a world where your spouse, your best friend, the most important things in your life that transcend physical property, had never existed. But it goes beyond that. There is also a profound feeling of emptiness, isolation, and hopelessness. The sense of protection is gone, leaving you exposed to all the terrible enemies who would not have dared cross the one you have lost, but are now free to hound and haunt you openly and mercilessly. There is no Christmas.

We Are Not Amused

A great variety of spirits come to us on the wings of music,
Into the deepest recesses of the soul.
They come to places where the light of reason has never shone.
They come gliding past the gatekeeper, Reason,
The censor and judge which patrols the soul’s borders.”
-Peter Kreeft

Have you ever asked someone or been asked, “What are you listening to?” Has it ever been phrased, “What is that noise?” To one person, the best description for another person’s music may very well sometimes be ‘noise’. The phrase “to each his own” is usually used to calm such qualms, as such disagreements are often a simple difference of opinion (subjectivity); but what if there was also an objective side to this? Could it be that there is a concrete (though perhaps not always clear) distinction between that which is truly music, and that which is simply noise packaged as music?

WWJV? (For Whom Would Jesus Vote?)

What if Jesus had came back in the recent past? Let’s say He did, but much like before: not in glory, but simply as a child who would grow up indistinguishable from anyone else on the street. Fast forward a year from now, and early November is less than a month away. For whom would Jesus vote? Would He vote?

Be Straight With Me

Take a quick moment and forget how you may or may not have been raised, how you may or may not believe, how you may or may not feel. Now in this imaginary environment, let’s say you feel a call to and from something greater than and beyond yourself. Let’s say you just know in your heart there has to be a God who has something for you and that you just have to find a place to learn about Him and His plan. Let’s say you're looking for a church. Let’s say you’re a homosexual.
